City of Columbus parks improvements
February 4, 2008Columbus Parent Magazine Feb. 2008: Nurturing Nature
February 5, 2008From Councilwoman Priscilla Tyson:
As citizens request to have a leash
law established in Columbus, I
have been working with the
Recreation and Parks Department
to determine locations for dog
parks across the city. It is important
that we find great spaces for these
parks, so that our dogs have
somewhere to run freely and
safely.
Three Creeks Dog Park, the
southeast regional dog park, will be
4.5 acres of fenced-in space,
featuring a separate small dogs
area, an information kiosk, a
walking path, trees and parking
spaces. We anticipate this park to
open during the summer of 2008.
Three Creeks Dog Park will be
located at 2748 Spangler Road, in
the Sycamore Fields area of The
Creeks Park.
For downtown Columbus, a dog
park is slated for the southeast
corner of 4th and Spring Streets.
Though this park will
be small in
comparison to a
regional dog park, I
am very encouraged
by the efforts to
design and construct
such parks in higher
density areas. In
addition, downtown
dog parks are a
great asset to the
city and complement
efforts to encourage
people to live, work,
and spend time in our city center.
We are also researching options
for dog parks at Wheeler Park,
Big Run Park, the new Scioto
Audubon Metro Park, and other
locations throughout the city. If
you have a suggestion for a
location, please don’t hesitate to
contact my office’”we are always
open to hear your thoughts!
Dog Parks’”An Update
I will continue to work with the
Recreation and Parks department to
find other suitable locations for local
dog parks. It is very important to me
that we do everything we can to
ensure the safety of our family and
friends, both human and canine. To
be notified of upcoming community
forums regarding leash laws and dog
parks, please contact my office at
