Youth Sport Safety – Early Specialization

February 24, 2014In May 2013, I set out to hike the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2,650-mile journey from Mexico to Canada. A knee injury booted me off the trail after 1,400 miles, but in the course of my adventure I fell in love with nature and the outdoors. I returned home and immediately searched for a way to share my newfound passion with others. I founded JMT Adventures, a 22-day backpacking camp for teens leading them on a guided journey along California’s stunning John Muir Trail (JMT).
The JMT starts in Yosemite and ends at Mt. Whitney (14,505), the highest mountain in the lower 48 states. The 210-mile hike provides a unique physical and mental challenge. It is an opportunity for kids to immerse themselves in nature, and get some refuge from the screens and technology that dominate our everyday lives. Kids will learn camping and hiking skills and practice the environmentally friendly principles of Leave No Trace. We invite teens of all levels of backpacking experience to join us on this one-of-a-kind adventure. If you or someone you know is interested in JMT Adventures, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at info@jmtadventures.com.
