THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH
Columbus finally will begin developing a long-awaited 40-acre park along Hard Road this year, but the recreation center that
residents have wanted for years won’t soon be built. The city bought the Northwest Side property, once a cow pasture, for
$3.8million in 2002. It has sat undeveloped as the city weathered a recession, budget cuts and recreation-center closings.
Now, the Recreation and Parks Department will spend $250,000 to develop the first phase of the park, which is just west of
Linworth Road near Worthington Kilbourne High School. Work will begin in the spring, and the park should be open by late
summer, said Maureen Lorenz, landscape architect for the department. The city has been showing three concepts for the park to neighborhood leaders. Athletic fields, a playground, a clearing for bird-watching and picnics and walking trails are all
in the mix’¦ http://www.dispatchpolitics.com/live/content/local_news/stories/2011/01/18/copy/long-stalled-park-to-openin-2011-but-no-rec-center.html?adsec=politics&sid=101
