February 24, 2009Thought you all would enjoy this video:
February 24, 2009Family Nature Clubs – A way for those already into this movement to encourage other families to play in nature!
A way for hesitant or fearful parents to find a sure path into healthy play for their children – a great family memories!
This is a pilot project of the Children and Nature Network. I am attaching the Toolkit below – it’s a 20-page pdf, but very nicely laid out with lots of testimonials and hints for success.
We would like to make a big announcement in Ohio to get attention about this idea.

One idea I had was that we choose a day, and everyone who has a blog or Facebook status or Twitter account or whatever can post something about this. With all our connections, many people are bound to hear about it once or twice, and if they also hear about it in the newspaper or somewhere else, they will surely feel compelled to find out more!
I want to push people to do
things they haven’t done. I
want to get past the barrier of
parental fear’¦I view my role as
a goodwill ambassador to the
place and to nature.

I wanted my daughters to
be able to go outside and have
the opportunity for free-play in
nature. I did it as a child and I
wanted the same for them. I also
noticed how each time we’d go
out, there was no one else on
the trail or in the park’¦and we
wanted to change that.

A few key benefits
‘¢ Nature Clubs for Families can be created in any neighborhood
‘” whether inner city, suburban, or rural ‘” and in
any economic setting.
‘¢ Nature Clubs for Families can be joined or created by any
family’”single parents, extended families, friends who feel
like families.
‘¢ The Nature Clubs for Families approach can break down
key barriers, including fear of strangers, since there is
safety in numbers.
‘¢ There is the motivation factor’”it’s much more likely you
and your family are going to show up at a park on Saturday
morning if you know there’s another family waiting for you.
‘¢ Shared knowledge: Many parents want to give their kids
the gifts of nature, but they don’t feel they know enough
about nature to do so.
‘¢ And, importantly, there is no need to wait for funding.
Families can do this themselves and do it now.
