New Downtown Metro Park offers a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including a 35′ climbing wall.
Columbus, Ohio ‘“ The Stewards of Metro Parks invites anyone interested in enjoying nature at its finest to join them at
Scioto Audubon Metro Park on Sunday, May 23, 2010. From bird watching to rock climbing, visitors will find a variety of
adventurous pursuits for the entire family.
Although the park is now open daily, the Stewards of Metro Parks has special activities planned from 1:00 p.m. to
4:00 p.m. on May 23rd. There are no costs nor admissions to participate. Special activities will include:
ô’‚ƒ Rock Climbing
Visitors will have the chance to scale one of the largest outdoor climbing walls in the United States. And for
the novice climber, demonstrations will be provided hourly.
ô’‚ƒ Bird Watching
Visitors will have the opportunity to view a wide variety of birds and wildlife on their own at one of the
park’s new observation decks or participate in a guided tour with a Metro Parks naturalist at 2 p.m.
ô’‚ƒ The Grange Insurance Audubon Center
Hourly tours of the Grange Insurance Audubon Center will be provided.
ô’‚ƒ Wetlands Viewing Areas
Metro Parks has created seven wetland cells and a variety of new birds have been attracted to the area.
Visitors will be able to seek out wood ducks, blue-winged teal, sand pipers, egrets, pied-billed grebe,
American bittern, herons, osprey and more.
ô’‚ƒ Sand Volleyball Courts and Kids Playground
Visitors will be able to enjoy the newly installed sand volleyball courts and playground equipment for children.
As the newest Metro Park, Scioto Audubon Metro Park is a 71-acre oasis in downtown Columbus. Developed in a
partnership effort between Metro Parks, the City of Columbus Recreation and Parks Department and Audubon Ohio, the
park sits on the bank of the Scioto River on the Whittier peninsula. The park offers visitors many activities including
birding, fishing, boating, hiking and jogging. The park also features one of the largest outdoor climbing walls in the United
States. The three towers and two arches of the main climbing wall reach a height of 35 feet, and extend over 6,100
square feet.

variety of outdoor pursuits to choose from.
