July 11, 2014What can Ohio learn from Florida? (Environmental Ed Lessons Learned seminar)
July 18, 2014Did you know that Ohioans aren’t getting the regular exercise they need? There’s no magic bullet, but we know that small changes can make a difference. So, how do we get Ohioans out and active? We make the healthy choice, the easy choice!
As you know, schools offer a variety of safe and cost-effective recreational facilities, including running tracks, pools, gymnasiums, fitness rooms, and playgrounds. Schools can create access by opening these existing facilities during non-school hours, integrating the opportunity for community use when planning new construction projects, or building collaborative relationships and entering into reciprocal agreements with local governments or community organizations. Unfortunately, school districts often close their property to the public after school hours due to concerns around liability, security, and maintenance and other costs.
Public health partners in Ohio are working to remove barriers to shared use in an effort to increase physical activity opportunities in our communities. Many organizations have already committed their support to raise awareness about shared use, but we need to grow our list. We would sincerely appreciate your endorsement of support. Please sign on as a partner in our effort to increase shared use and help us move toward a healthier Ohio!
