September 30, 2012Hello!
The Innovative Farmers of Ohio is busy putting finishing touches on what promises to be a great event!
“Resetting the American Dinner Table: How Entrepreneurial Farmers Can Create a Healthy Nation and a Sustainable Food System” is the theme of this year’s Annual Conference and Fundraising Event ‘“ November 2 & 3, 2012.
On Friday evening, November 2, 2012, with the generous support of Ohio Wesleyan University as part of the 2012 Sagan National Colloquium, IFO will present Ben Hewitt, author of The Town that Food Saved and Making Supper Safe. Prior to Hewitt’s presentation, area restaurants will present signature dishes using local ingredients; local beverages and music will also be part of the evening. Our conference — featuring panels, workshops, speakers and exhibitors — will convene on Nov. 3, 2012.
Hewitt addresses issues of great importance to our food and farming communities. Local farmers have the potential to be sources of economic development in rural communities as they were in Hardwick, Vermont; the town that was reenergized by entrepreneurial farming (documented in Hewitt’s, The Town That Food Saved). Resetting the Dinner Table emphasizes not only the importance of farming to local economies but that food safety begins on the farm. Choosing food from small scale farms is a first step in bringing safe, nutrient-dense food to the family dinner table and a key message of Hewitt’s latest book, Making Supper Safe.
