The National Gardening Association has announced that The Home Depot Garden Club is sponsoring the Youth Garden Grants. Thanks to the generosity of The Home Depot Garden Club, five organizations will receive gift cards valued at $1,000, and 95 will receive $500 gift cards, to purchase gardening materials and supplies from their local Home Depot store specific to the needs of their program.
Youth Garden Grants are awarded to schools and community organizations with child-centered garden programs. Priority will be given to programs that emphasize one or more of these elements:
* integration of content standards
* nutrition connections
* environmental awareness
* entrepreneurship
* social aspects of gardening such as leadership development, team building, community support, or service-learning
Schools, youth groups, community centers, camps, clubs, treatment facilities, and inter-generational groups throughout the United States are eligible. Applicants must plan to garden with at least 15 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years. Previous Youth Garden Grant winners who wish to reapply may do so, but must wait one year between winning and reapplying (e.g., if you won in 2011, you can apply again in 2013) and have significantly expanded their garden program(s).
