Volunteer on National Public Lands Day
September 24th, 2011
C&NN's Natural Service Network is joining forces with National Public Lands Day (NPLD) to encourage everyone - young and old - to get outside and volunteer.
Public Lands belong to all of us - think about what you can do to improve the park down the street, the school in your neighborhood or any public green space in your community.
NPLD offers teachers, parents and community leaders a great opportunity to plan a service day or kick-off to a long-term community service project.
NPLD is the nation's largest one-day volunteer event for public lands. This year, it occurs on Saturday, September 24th. During NPLD, volunteers typically clean up trash and debris, remove invasive species, restore historic sites and trails, plant native trees, and build bird and bat boxes. In 2010, over 170,000 volunteers contributed over $15 million in improvements to public lands in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.
Along with being an important day of service, NPLD also provides multiple resources to support volunteer activities in September and all year long. Visit the NPLD website.
