Managing invasive plant species is a constant battle in the Magee Marsh wildlife area. For the past six years, volunteers have been working to reduce garlic mustard along a boardwalk. This noxious weed has taken over the area, choking out just about everything else.
Our work has really made a difference, but now we are ready to take the next step restoring the area by planting native wildflower species, such as columbine and geranium. Not only will these plants be beautiful, they will also benefit birds and other wildlife. Help us reach our goal by joining Walk on the Wild Side to raise much needed funds. When you see the flowers flourishing in the years to come, you can say I helped!
There are a number of ways you can help us achieve our goal of raising $5,000:
‘¢ Walk with us on May 14, 2011 at Magee Marsh Wildlife Area!
‘¢ Enlist your family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers to sponsor your effort to help the Marsh.
‘¢ Join an existing team of walkers or form your own team.
‘¢ Participate as a Virtual Walker if you can’t join us, but want to support Weeds to Wildflowers
‘¢ Help make our first Walk on the Wild Side a success by donating your time as a volunteer.
