Description: Part of a NEW week long Johnny Appleseed Birthday Tour sponsored by The Johnny Appleseed Foundation, American Forests, and hosted by Historic Properties where Johnny’s Apple Trees once stood.
In the early 1800’s, Johnny Appleseed planted thousands of acres of apple trees throughout Ohio and Indiana. 235 years after his birth, we will be planting “genetically authentic Johnny Appleseed apple trees” on Historic Sites as a part of an Annual Celebration leading up to his birthday on September 26th. The apple trees are special! They have been grafted from a single living apple tree in northwest Ohio that is documented to have been planted by Johnny (Miraculously, it still lives, blooms, and produces fruit)! The Johnny Appleseed Foundation, in collaboration with the American Forests organization, has undertaken the mission of grafting this amazing tree and it is available now to be planted and purchased by those interested. The Historic Sites being selected are Historic Register properties with documents leading to the likelihood that Johnny planted the apple trees that once stood on the property OR there is “documented evidence” that Johnny’s orchards or nurseries once prospered on the site. The Fletcher Coffman Homestead/Dublin Historical Society in Dublin, OH and the Samuel Davis House on Dublin Road near Dublin are both Historically significant properties with a history that connects them to Johnny Appleseed. We are delighted to have discovered these associations and pleased to be “replacing Johnny’s trees” on these locations.
Come join in the ceremony of seeing Johnny’s Trees once again be planted in ground where they once stood. Enjoy the historically accurate Johnny Appleseed Portrayal as performed by Hank Fincken (see link out above)! What a great educational and entertaining FREE event for people of all ages. Get outside, connect with nature and history! Hank will perform, there will be a representative from American Forests on hand to answer your questions about the Historic Tree Program, there will be a representatives from the Johnny Appleseed Museum and Foundation, the Dublin Historical Society, and Johnny Appleseed related items to view or purchase (with proceeds going to support the mission). We have a number of complimentary Apple Cookbooks for those interested. Come be a part of “replacing history”!
