Health Education Assessments: The Latest & Greatest Tools will be held on April 20th in Cleveland, Ohio. How full is your toolbox? This four hour presentation will work on sharpening your knowledge of assessment tools for Health Education Instruction. Facilitators will include strategies for how to use health behavior outcomes (HBO) and the HECAT as planning tools when designing health education curriculum. Participants will learn strategies to use when conducting formative assessment and performance tasks. There is no cost to attend but registration is necessary.

“Skills for Health Behavior Change– Because Healthy Students are Better Learners” is a three hour workshop that will be held on April 25th in Cincinnati, Ohio that focuses on helping participants identify and implement appropriate educational activities (based on theory) for successful health education and promotion programs in a school setting. Although a school setting is used throughout the workshop as an example, these skills can be generalized to other settings. There is no cost to attend but registration is necessary.

“Create A Classroom that Moves” is a 6-hour skill building workshop that will be held on June 25, 2012 at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. Join the movement! Classroom-based physical activity is an instructional tool teachers can use to improve mood, energy levels and facilitate student learning. In this session, classroom teachers will learn to identify opportunities for incorporating activity into the busy classroom. This session is geared for the busy elementary (K-5) classroom teacher who would like to integrate nutrition and physical activity into the classroom. Registration is now open!  Cost is $50 and includes lunch and all materials.

“Strengthening Academic Achievement with Healthier Kids” is the theme of this year’s annual coordinated school health conference. The conference will be held June 26 & 27 at Cherry Valley Lodge in Newark, Ohio. More & more research is showing that the academic success of America’s youth is strongly linked with their health. Schools can play a critical role in promoting the health and safety of young people and helping them establish lifelong healthy behaviors. The 2012 conference will offer participants pertinent and informative plenary & break-out sessions, excellent speakers, as well as strategies, guidelines, & tools for schools to incorporate into action plans that can be used to address health risk behaviors in an effort to reduce these risky behaviors & improve academic achievement among students. Participants will receive hand-outs, program ideas and resources, and on-site technical assistance.
