New Nature-based Columbus school looking for a home!

September 23, 2015 kidsandnature Education/SchoolsParks and Land

Red Oak Community School is an innovative new primary school opening up here in Columbus in the fall of 2016 starting with grades K-2, with plans to add up to 8th grade in the future.
Our mission is to be a nurturing learning environment that respects childhood, honors individual potential, and fosters connection to self, others, and the natural world, made financially accessible by building community and sharing resources.
But we need a home!! We are hoping someone reading this newsletter may be able to help. We would love to have a space on the top half of Columbus, with an open indoor space for one or two classrooms and a kitchen-ish area. But what we most desire is some OUTDOOR space that is NOT a gravel/paved playground, but a little regular ‘ole nature where the kids can play, explore and learn.
We are interested in renting space, working in partnership with existing organizations and/or sharing space with like-minded groups! If you have any ideas or leads for us, please feel free to shoot me an email at

I am the owner of Child’s Play Learning Center, Inc. Child’s Play is in a house that has been renovated three times and is at this time completed. It sits on 3 acres, zoned for commercial/educational use. We are currently licensed for 101 children Infants to 3rd grade; however I have always wanted to start a Charter School that focused on Nature with a hands on curriculum. We offer at this time opportunities for children planting vegetable gardens on each of the playgrounds; flower and herb gardens; Rain Garden with Ohio Native Plants; a Butterfly garden with Ohio Native plants, and 2 back acres that has had community gardening in the past; however now it has been seeded with Native Grasses and Forbes. i mow a 1/4 maze path for children to walk through and explore wildlife.
